Ok we have featured Nick Catchdub mixes in the past and if you search the web you will find so many of his sonic adventures. This latest takes the cake and when I found it I knew I had to share it with all you Old Heads or Kids of the 90s. You know what I am talking about, the real 90210, My So Called Life, 120 Minutes, Singles, Mallrats, Matt Pinfield, Clerks types! Ha! New Music is Everywhere nowadays. Everyday, Radio is proving that it serves no purpose. Some may argue with me on this but at least when I head to the clubs in LA, more and more I ma noticing that the DJs and the crowd are beginning to know the Jams bumping throughout the net. Case in point, MSTRKRFT, which should be a household name for every DJ by now. You should be playing at least one of their remixes or originals in your set regardless if you spin Hip-Hop, Electro, Top 40 or Indie. People go nuts. On that note I give you their latest remix of John Legend’s jam, “Green Light.” If you haven’t got this yet then download it. Also attached are some other tunes you should enjoy. Have fun!

The mastered version of my Dead Prez remix will soon finally be available (big thanks DJA, the master of mastering behind most Mad Decent and Flamin’ Hotz releases) and my Treasure Fingers remix. My tracks are getting radio support from Mark Ronson and BBC Radio 1 DJs Kissy Sell Out and Annie Mac and it’s damn exciting. My debut EP’s still in the works, and expect much more East Coast dj slots from me once this Philly move happens (I love you Bloomingon but I must set you free).

These are Indie/Underground/D.I.Y. dudes who I think deserve some spins at gigs or on mixtapes, that you won’t hear on the radio! These tracks will be cross-genre too! So I just stumble across the following news feed. I would like you to read it and then ponder, how some of the peer pressure in this industry can hurt others.

DJ AM Reveals Dark Past

Los Angeles, CA (CNS) - DJ AM may be one of the hottest DJ’s in Hollywood, with an impressive list of starlet ex-girlfriends and the
deed to many of the towns hottest nightclubs.

However, just ten years ago, DJ AM was leading a very different life. The 33 year-old music man, whose real name is Adam Goldstein, has told the story of his past to Glamour magazine.

The ex-fiancé of Nicole Richie revealed that he was once so close to committing suicide he had a gun in his mouth.
AM said, “I went into my living room, reached into a cabinet above my TV and grabbed my gun, a loaded .22. I sat back on my heels, cocked it and put it into my mouth. I pulled the trigger. The gun didn’t go off. I thought, ‘Are you kidding me? I’m such an [expletive] failure I can’t even kill myself? I dropped the gun and broke down. That was the turning point in my life.”

Since the turning point at age 24, DJ AM has become one of the biggest entertainers in Hollywood, favored by celebrities and appearing at some of the hottest parties.

However, his priorities have changed.

The star continued, “I no longer needed a trophy girlfriend or drugs to feel good about myself. It’s been nine and a half years since I’ve had a drink or taken drugs. But every day I have to remind myself that no matter how much time I have behind me, I’m still a drug addict.”

“At any given moment, I’m five seconds away from walking up to someone, grabbing their drink out of their hand and downing it. And if I do that, within a week, tops, I’ll be smoking crack.”

AM is one of my favorites to catch when I am out in LA. He is probably one of the best at getting a party started and finished with whoever his audience is, leaving the club better off. While I do not know him personally, many who are acquainted with him, know that he is pretty open about all of this.

Still, there are many DJs out there who may be in a similar spot and not as open. This is a privileged job we get to do. Help make sure many can do it for years to come!
