1 commentTech Tuesday: Harmonic Mixing is KING!

I do not consider myself a great DJ at all. I have dabble in many aspects of the field for 13 years now. One thing that has always perplexed me and been a big thorn in my side is when you go to mix 2 songs that you know have beats that are easily mixed but for some reason they sound awful together. It didn’t always make sense until one day I read about how many of the best Electronic DJs not only worry about BPM but also the Key in which the song is played.
Years of musical training all made sense at that moment. When someone sings a song off key, like a friends in the car, it sounds terrible. We all have experienced that. So why would it be the same for 2 songs that get mixed together.
Now if most of you are like myself, you don’t have the time to worry about this.
So in comes Yakov Vorobyev and his company Mixed In Key, LLC. A program I have been working with for over a year now.

It’s a pretty simple and straightforward program that can figures out the Temp and Key of every MP3 or WAV file you have. It will then place it’s analysis in the BPM and Comments section of your file and will then come up in any Software program you use. I have tested it with Serato, Traktor and Numark Cue. The video below is a bit chessy but informative.
The purist may get angered by this but as for I am all about spreading this simple process in order to hear more cleaner Mixtapes and Sets while out at the Local Dive! Also, on a side not, think about all the DJ AM/Crooklyn Clan mash ups you can make that will actually sound right together!
It’s supporters are impressive too from Kaskade to Blank & Jones to Deep Dish and Pete Tong. Amazing DJs with amazing talent.
The site explains it all and has great tutorials. There is no need for me to go into detail about how to use. But for a simple investment of $58, your current and future fans will be thanking you and in turn Mr. Vorobyev for this wonderful creation! Check it out now!!!!
New Music Monday: Jockin’ MSTRKRFT, John Legend and Jay-Z

New Music is Everywhere nowadays. Everyday, Radio is proving that it serves no purpose. Some may argue with me on this but at least when I head to the clubs in LA, more and more I ma noticing that the DJs and the crowd are beginning to know the Jams bumping throughout the net. Case in point, MSTRKRFT, which should be a household name for every DJ by now. You should be playing at least one of their remixes or originals in your set regardless if you spin Hip-Hop, Electro, Top 40 or Indie. People go nuts. On that note I give you their latest remix of John Legend’s jam, “Green Light.” If you haven’t got this yet then download it. Also attached are some other tunes you should enjoy. Have fun!
John Legend Ft. Andre 3000 - Green Light (MSTRKRFT Remix)
New Jay-Z. You may have this but if not then get on it! His best track in years!
Jay-Z- Dope Boy Fresh (Jockin’ Jay=Z)

2 Many DJs: Their Weekend Never Dies
2 Many DJs Live at Vanguard LA Playing Raven by The Proxy
This past Monday I had the opportunity to witness 2 Many DJs aka some of the guys from Soulwax courtesy of Scion and iheartcomix. I will say that this was one fo the most amazing gigs I have been to in years. Some DJs play what the people want to hear. Some DJs think they have to be avante and hip playing only the latest tracks and what they think is cool. Then there are those rare few who can do both all while playing the emotions of the crowd. This is what we saw. I posted some videos from my Canon SD750 Elph, so they aren’t the best but enjoy.
In 2 weeks, Soulwax will be releasing their much antcipated Documentary, Part of the Weekend Never Dies, where one camera followed them around for 120 days straight of non-stop performances and DJ gigs. From what I have seen so far, this will be a must see for all DJs and Music Artists. A glimpse into what it really takes to make it big across the world! If you own an xbox you can get the video now in full HD on xBox live!
If you haven’t check them out yet then head over tho their site right now, WWW.SOULWAX.COM!!!!

Greetings everyone,
As some of you may know, I’ve spent the past year and a half working on my debut solo album, Solitude, along with a brand new live show (turntables, synthesizers, visual elements, showcase sets, etc). The album contains guest appearances from Royce da 5′9″, C-Rayz Walz, Ill Insanity, Rites of Ash and more. The intended single is called The Right which features Jean Grae & Wrekonize. Unfortunately, this song WILL NOT be on the album due to an inability clearing one of the video game samples but feel free to check out the video and download the free MP3…
…Also, check out the album press release below for the full track listing and information to be used for public writings. Anyways, I bring you the official premier of my video so enjoy it and make sure to rate it, save it as a favorite, blog it, bulletin it, etc. Thanks again and be sure to mark your calendars. Peace. –DJ I-Dee

I like food…food is good..food…food…food!!!
So I am bored right now sitting in the Vegas Airport while waiting for my connecting flight to Salt Lake City. It’s 7:45 in the morning and I have slept about an hour, which was on the flight, in the past 24 or more hours. I can’t imagine how you, the touring DJs of the world do it, day in and day out. I am probably setting myself up for the 2nd freak out of my life.
Well while I am sitting here searching my Blog Reader I am noticing a reoccurring topic catching my eye, restaurants and food. So since I am slowly become a jet setter myself, I thought it would be fun to share a few of my favorite eats of the past few weeks and some fo my all time favorites for you all to check out and maybe try some day!!! Here goes my list:

Le Tub: While out in beautiful South Beach, I had the chance to meet up with a close friend from home, who lives out there as missionary. The kid has really knows the local sweet spots. I sent him an email saying I would take him to lunch while I was out there but he had to pick one of the best spots he knew of in the area. What a way to come through. I had their famous Sirlionburger with Swiss Cheese. Sorry In-N-Out but I have a new favorite burger, so does Oprah, GQ and many other magazines who have written excellent articles on the place. Read up and get some grub!!!!

Larios On The Beach: Since I am on a WMC kick I will also mention a great Cuban place, DJ I-Dee took us to. Larios On The Beach right on Ocean Drive in South Beach. I told I-Dee I really wanted some good Cuban Food and he came through. All I need was my “Yucca Frita” and I would be set. It was delicious. Oh and the Pollo was great too. Try it!!! You won’t regret.

In-N-Out: I am not going to say more than this, “That’s What a Hamburger’s All About.” Even “Super-size Me” couldn’t deny it’s greatness.
Well these are three spots I highly recommend. Up next week, I will have an actual review of a In-N-Out wannabe I had in Utah last week. Interesting! Until then, eat up and poop out! Ha!
