I’d like to think I’m lucky that I live in NYC. Set on a chilly fall Wednesday night… (yes it was that memorable that a girl like me with the absolute worst memory remembers the day of the week this went down!)… when DJs from all over the US came to battle it out at NYC’s S.O.B’s for the title of 1st EVER Gong DJ Battle Champ 2006. DJ I-Dee was victorious, Lord Sear, Lord Finesse and Fat Fingaz had us in stitches, and there was a grudge match!!

No commentsDJ’s in Ecuador…
So I was going to write the title of this entry as “DJ’s in a 3rd world country” BUT I didn’t because not all parts of Ecuador are 3rd world status. Ecuador is a beautiful country and I hadn’t been to in nearly 13 years and in those 13 years so much had been redone, made more modern and I want to go back. I’m aiming for the summer of 2008!!
So back to the topic at hand. I went to a big party that had 2 of the biggest bands in Ecuador performing. During the down time a DJ played music to get the crowd hype and me being the nosey girl that I am made my way to the sound board area to see what was going down. Just as I had suspected, CDs!! I wasn’t hating I was just being nosey. Two days after that I was at a house party thrown for me and my fams and I was able to check out what exactly the DJ was using. CDs again! This time I was able to take a closer look at the equipment which was in a super cool set up thing. I should’ve taken a picture. I don’t know the model of the equipment but I did notice it was all Denon.
During my ride to the airport the following morning, it dawned on me why CD turntables, CD player systems are so much more popular in this country… the music. The popular music in Ecuador is spanish music DUH, but to be more specific cumbia type music. Even on the radio cumbia is the hot ish… that right there boggled my mind because I’m accustomed to hearing cumbia only at parties. This music isn’t pressed on vinyl only CDs!
I wasn’t able to hit up any bars or clubs because there wasn’t enough time, but I’m almost certain that if I did and would’ve made my way over to the DJ area I would’ve found CDs! I wonder if something like Serato will make it’s way over my motherland better yet WHEN?!!
Until next time!

R.I.P. Evil Knievel! Man was true to himself and his fans!
We got the retail copy of the new Wu record sent to the office today! Nice! I am glad to see they are back and going to spend time with it this week. Let’s see if the drama is worth it!
I have to DJ for the Kiddies tomorrow. So I have been looking for some hot new tracks.
My favorites for the weekend are:
The Cool Kids: Flossin & Pump Up The Volume
Murs- Dreadlocks
33Hz- Paris Texas
Bloc Party-Flux (Not Sure Which Remix)
What are you spinnin’?
Can’t wait to here this Kanye remix of “Billie Jean”!
Make sure to check out the TV and Media section on the site. We have a few new episodes up and some new downloads. Some tracks I mentioned above!
I will leave you with my Party video for this weekend!
This Week’s Quick Blurbs!
I am a few days late on this but who knows how many people actually are reading this anyways! So here is to a new week!
Got a new Steve Aoki article for you. I love this one which comes courtesy of URB.com. Here is one quote I love:
“…all those old people were there, Paul Van Dyke, Tiesto. . .It was crazy, I don’t even know how I won. Every billboard in Ibiza is a DJ who is over 45 years old…”
He is going to have the purist up in arms again! Ha Ha! Read more here!
We have a few new Features in the News Section of MixRevolution.com. Make sure to check out the new Pioneer SVM-1000 mixer. I am a tech geek and can’t wait to play with it.
Kaskade is probably one of my favorite Djs now, check out his New Year’s Flyer, he may not be Tiesto but he loves what he does and so do his fans!
The Cool Kids have a dope new track called Flossin’, get the download from Discobelle here! Then spin it in your mixtapes and sets!
Palms Out Sound is one of my favorite dance music blogs, They post a lot of cool and unique remixes all week long. Some of the Dance purist would call them lo-quality blog remix crap, but this fad is slowly becoming the New Punk Rock of this new Millennium and Decade! Check it out and enjoy!
That’s it for now! More to come this week! Also check out some of my favorite blog posts over to your right at “NOVA’s World Wide Finds”!
Let us know if you are enjoying this!

Andre 3000 is know for his eccentric fashion sense and his amazing MC skills. This video puts him on a whole new level. I think he has finally figured out how to communicate with the Aliens he loves. Ha J/K!

No comments“…and did the wild thing on my leg.”
Courtesy of Sit Up Stand Down, I just read how another white bred, cracker school district/community is fearing the affects of hip-hop on it’s youth. This sounds like I am back in middle school. As a twenty something Caucasian male who grew up the minority in is neighborhood, I heard these stories all the time, but that was in the 90s.
Ok back to the lecture at hand. Read the following articles to actually understand what I am talking about, here and here.
Here is a quote from one parent:
“This is not just shaking your booty,” he said. “This is pelvis-to-pelvis physical contact in the private areas…and then moving around.”
Now I can agree somewhat with the views of the Principal and parents but remember the reaction Elvis got when he got the ladies “All Shook-Up” over his pelvic thrusts! And I know they all say Kevin Bacon get “Foot Loose”, ha! I thought it was interesting to see that we are still progressing in some spots.

Time flies when you work for MixRev!
So another weekend, another time to party!
Check out Alan Freed’s blog up top for the cool Dance Clubs to hit up across the US this weekend.
The MixRev chart section is up and running so go check them out and see what is spinning! There is new stuff in the media section also. Give them a spin.
For you Hip Hop heads, here is a good spot to look for some new twists on the tracks you play this weekend.
P.Diddy and Craig David have nothing on this:
That’s all folks! Don’t do anything I wouldn’t do and Keep on Mixin’!!
No commentsThis Week’s Quick Blurbs!
First and foremost, our condolences go out to Kanye West and his family. No more needs to be said, as the media has been updating us on this news constantly, even though the family has asked for some privacy. Let them mourn and keep them in your prayers!
Keep an eye out for DJ I-Dee’s interview with turntable legend, Q-Bert, which should be up soon.
Also, there will me lots of OLDS, since I can’t call it news, videos coming up in our TV section this week. Look from here on out to see new posts in our TV section every week.
I was forwarded an interesting article from LA City Beat this past week regarding LA’s own and Hollywood’s favorite DJ, Steve “Kid Millionaire” Aoki. While I do not agree with everything said, since I have seen him DJ many times over the past 4 years or so but it is interesting none the less. Read the article here.
Last, while watching TV today this commercial really made me laugh. I guess I am not a tough guy.
Enjoy your day and week. I am going to see Mixmaster Mike tonight. So I will update you on that later!
Peace!
