The Chuck Taylor

May 15th, 2008 | Category: Random Tip, Sneakerhead, ”Fashionistas!

Chuck Contest

Every year since the eighth grade I have owned at least one pair of these shoes. Thanks Kurt Cobain! Ha! They are the Godfather of Classic sneaker. A shoe no true sneakerhead can not have in his collection.

So I was on Eastbay last night, why, I don’t know since I am a broke mofo, but I saw this cool contest they are doing. You design your own Chuck Taylor, and they will sell it for you. The requirement is that it has to contain 2 of the following aspects to its design. Music, Fashion, Sports and Art. Not a hard concept. But the cool part is you can use an Adobe program to design it, not some online template crap.

So if you are into this kind of stuff, then click the picture above and check it out! I am doing it for fun!

April 22nd, 2008 | Category: Mix Revolution TV, Random Tip

The other day I got a bit angry about the fact that Aaron posted the Coolio video below because I thought I had already done a post about it and it got deleted. I was tired and now I find it funny because today I was looking at my drafts and look what I found in there. So I know this isn’t news but I wanted to post this anyways! Read on:

I like food…food is good..food…food…food!!!

April 22nd, 2008 | Category: Random Tip

So I am bored right now sitting in the Vegas Airport while waiting for my connecting flight to Salt Lake City. It’s 7:45 in the morning and I have slept about an hour, which was on the flight, in the past 24 or more hours. I can’t imagine how you, the touring DJs of the world do it, day in and day out. I am probably setting myself up for the 2nd freak out of my life.

Well while I am sitting here searching my Blog Reader I am noticing a reoccurring topic catching my eye, restaurants and food. So since I am slowly become a jet setter myself, I thought it would be fun to share a few of my favorite eats of the past few weeks and some fo my all time favorites for you all to check out and maybe try some day!!! Here goes my list:

Le Tub

Le Tub: While out in beautiful South Beach, I had the chance to meet up with a close friend from home, who lives out there as missionary. The kid has really knows the local sweet spots. I sent him an email saying I would take him to lunch while I was out there but he had to pick one of the best spots he knew of in the area. What a way to come through. I had their famous Sirlionburger with Swiss Cheese. Sorry In-N-Out but I have a new favorite burger, so does Oprah, GQ and many other magazines who have written excellent articles on the place. Read up and get some grub!!!!

Le Tub

Larios On The Beach: Since I am on a WMC kick I will also mention a great Cuban place, DJ I-Dee took us to. Larios On The Beach right on Ocean Drive in South Beach. I told I-Dee I really wanted some good Cuban Food and he came through. All I need was my “Yucca Frita” and I would be set. It was delicious. Oh and the Pollo was great too. Try it!!! You won’t regret.

Le Tub

In-N-Out: I am not going to say more than this, “That’s What a Hamburger’s All About.” Even “Super-size Me” couldn’t deny it’s greatness.

Well these are three spots I highly recommend. Up next week, I will have an actual review of a In-N-Out wannabe I had in Utah last week. Interesting! Until then, eat up and poop out! Ha!

More than a DJ!

March 06th, 2008 | Category: Random Tip

So I haven’t written in a while because I’ve been a bit out of it but yesterday I got an IM from a DJ I haven’t spoken to in a while and that conversation inspired this entry. I have a story for everything sometimes, come on it makes life a lot more interesting.

Before I started going to DJ battles, I became familiar with DJs in the scene via message boards/forums. In the early 2000’s THE GO TO forum was the one hosted by the Turntable Technicians. I remember reading this board religiously for weeks solely for the beef, it was addictive. Then the site got shut, I did sometime on the 5th Platoon boards then finally DJ Geometrix launched his board and that took over as the go to for everything turntablist, dj battle, skratch dj related.

The Turntable Technicians are no longer a crew but back in the day during the early 2000’s they were definitely a force to be reckoned with. In 2000 there were like 3-4 of them in the US DMC Finals, one of those finalist was the NYC DMC champ, DJ Tragik. A few years later in 2002, I think, a Turntable Technician by the name of Perseus took the US DMC title, that was my very first DMC US Final, it was at the Roxy. I have the worst memory but somehow I remember things when it comes to these DJs.

Back to the topic at hand, more than a DJ! As rewarding as coming up with a new routine or winning a DJ battle may be, DJs are just like us, they have bills that need to get paid, so with that, there are 9 to 5ish jobs these DJs may have. I was reading through an old thread on the Turntablist Network forum about what jobs these DJs have and here are some of the jobs that some of the DJs on that forum have: computer programmer, IT support, teacher, graphic designers, architect, insurance agents, electrician, and a bunch have even gone to the military.

All of these thoughts tie in with DJ Tragik, the DJ that IM’d me the night before, he’s a film director! I had seen him once or twice around the circuit but it wasn’t until one of his with the other crew he’s a part of the Lo-Livez a few years back that I actually stopped said hi and told him I enjoyed his performance. Randomly we’d chat on aim, and he’d just tell me about a project he’d been working on. It’s good to see someone take pride in something they do, whether it be becoming a DJ Champ or designing a website or in Tragic’s case putting out films. Vote for his Diary of the Dead contest entry on myspace! Click on the BOOYAH! icon to vote:
VOTE HERE. I believe the contest ends in a day or two so show your support to a fellow DJ!!

So with all of that being said, what JOBS besides DJing do you have??

Super Tuesday!

February 05th, 2008 | Category: News, Random Tip

There’s toooooooo much going on in this city that never sleeps… FASHION WEEK, Primaries, and The Giants! This New Yorker is still on her Giants high… it might be super gloomy weather here in the Big Apple but The Champs made their way through the Canyon of Heroes and to City Hall today!!! Props to the NY GIANTS 2008 SUPERBOWL CHAMPIONS!!!

Anywho I just quickly wanted to pop in and remind y’all to GO OUT AND VOTE! I may not be one to get super political but I do know that we have something that some people die for… the right to vote.

On a very sad note a Texas DJ from the Clever Monkeys Crew passed away over the weekend while heading home from a gig. R.I.P. DJ Frantic (5-1-76 to 2-2-08). I might not have known him personally but it’s always sad to lose someone in the DJ community. Our deepest condolences go out to his family, please keep them in your thoughts.

I am also really sad that after a miscarriage which has to be one of the most difficult things a woman has to go through the man who got the girl pregnant left her. Yes I’m talking about Lily Allen and Ed Simons of the Chemical Brothers. I might not know all their business but I find this super sad because she lost their baby.

When I figure out how to post videos I will be posting some of my favorite routines. Anyone have any suggestions???

January 10th, 2008 | Category: Mix Revolution TV, Music, Random Tip

Couldn’t really think of a title and when I send emails to people we work with I tend to start it with Yo! It’s a casualty of growing up in the nineties.

So I have to videos for you all to enjoy and they both are connect to the Internet famous hipster Sarah Morrison! She’s our girl and much thanks to her for hooking us up with so many wonderful people.

First is a collage of various video footage we have taken of ATL DJ, Le Castle Vania. We have been stalkin’…or wait…following this Disco Punk for a minute now. Last week we sent MixRev homie Reed Dailey to the monthly ATL event F&*k Yes! put on by said DJ. Reed said it was off the hook crazy. The live footage in this video is form there. Here is the final copy of our journeys:

Check out his myspace and listen to some of his amazing tunes at MySpace.com/castlevaniadisco.

Next up is a little video and awesome ditty that Sarah posted on the blog EatSkeet.com, a blog by LA DJ Skeet Skeet and his amigos. It’s from Canadian rapper Arabesque. I haven’t been able to get this tune out of my head since Sarah told me to check it out. I even downloaded his latest MixTape from EMusic.com. Check it out YO!!!!

Thanks for bearing with my rambling. last but not least, Indie Hip Hop greats, THE LIVING LEGENDS, are some cool dudes! They let a bunch of dudes they don’t know chill with them in their studio and video what goes on. Lucky.I.Am has the cutest little pit pup! Yes I said cute. Look out over the coming weeks for the interviews and footage. In a small documentary serious bout them! Peace in the Middle East!
