I’d like to think I’m lucky that I live in NYC. Set on a chilly fall Wednesday night… (yes it was that memorable that a girl like me with the absolute worst memory remembers the day of the week this went down!)… when DJs from all over the US came to battle it out at NYC’s S.O.B’s for the title of 1st EVER Gong DJ Battle Champ 2006. DJ I-Dee was victorious, Lord Sear, Lord Finesse and Fat Fingaz had us in stitches, and there was a grudge match!!

1 commentLP to iPod Turntable!!!

I stumbled up on this product today and have to say that this would be an AWESOME PRESENT for ANY DJ that still has a lot of vinyl. I mean setting up pro tools, and recording the records track by track. BUT THIS THING HERE!!! It’ll convert your records to mp3 and store it in your iPod. Then all you would have to do is just upload it to your laptop to use on Serato or whatever other program you guys use. Sure it only saves one step, but since I’m getting lazier as I get older, I would actually enjoy this.
Check it out here >>>
If someone buys this, please let me know how it is!!!

Our great friend DJ Ron posts his picks for Holiday gifts. Umm yeah, well I posted it for all you last minute shoppers. I haven’t done any of my shopping. Hopefully I can sneak out of work tommorow and get a stack of Best Buy gift certs. This is what Ron posted for the DANCE MUSIC FAN…
Hot Clothing
A large portion of the price of the Tiesto Tshirt from Armani Exchange ($38 of the $48) benefits the Mercy Corps. American Mutt encourages global unity through spunky tshirts with a good message. Ferry Corsten designed some hot gear for IKY clothing in DC.

Hot Artist Albums – New Artists
Myspace phenomenon Calvin Harris came large with this DIY electropop CD with a heavy 80s influence. The debut artist album from Jes, the voice of Motorcycle, is a great blend of electronica and rock. Ror-shak brings vocals to the drum and bass world – a welcome interpretation.

On a side note, I was speaking to somebody at Rane. I might get in trouble for saying this, but Serato 1.8 WITH VIDEO is scheduled to be released at NAMM 2008!!! We will be there with Roc Raida reviewing all the new products for the year. Who’s upgrading with me? I also hope it’s real stable so our computers don’t crash in the middle of our set.
No commentsVinyl resurgence!!!
Two articles by WIRED and Billboard Magazine have stated of a significant resurgence in Vinyl sales!!! Now I know it’s hard to believe, but I guess the niche market of audiophiles is ever increasing. I think there will always be a specific niche market that feels the need to buy a 12″ album. Especially if they’re now attaching coupons for free mp3 downloads with the Album. Now will I start buying vinyl again like I used to? Probably not because my closet is already full of crates and crates and crates…..and more crates of vinyl. I love music, but maybe I’m getting old and I can’t deal with transporting 15+ crates of vinyl whenever I move into a different apartment. How many crates DO YOU HAVE in your home?!?!

1 commentNew Serato Scratch Live!

Unless you have been sleeping under a rock, as I think I have, then you know that a week ago Serato released its next Scratch Live update. I find it wise to always have a copy of the latest public copy of Serato on hand with the last Public release and if you are feeling a little adventurous, the latest Public beta.
On the Public Beta note, there was also a new Beta release that many may not know about. Serato Scratch Live Public Beta 1.8. Now before you get all excited to hear “1.8” as I did, let’s make one thing clear, this release does not include the Video feature. Video will be an option with the release of 1.8 but you have to purchase an extra plug in. So for now that is missing. Aside from that there are a few new features you can have fun with. To find out what Serato has new to offer, all free to its current customers, read below and then head over to the Scratch LIVE links to download the latest versions. Enjoy!!!
