We stumbled across DJ Kares when surfing the endlessness that is myspace. We noticed her profile showing up left right and center on a bunch of our friends pages so we decided we want to have a closer look listen to DJ Kares. We checked out her 80′s mix on her Myspace Page. We loved what we heard and were left wanting more. Every so often we see a piece of gear where we think it is a must have.  We over here at Mix Rev think the AKAI APC 40 is that next must have device. To start the device is made from AKAI, they are the same company that makes the MPC sampling device that almost every single true hip hop head knows is a must have and has been featured in hundreds of hip-hop videos since the beginning of time. But I digress. The APC 40 is once of the most collaborative pieces of equipment I have ever had the opportunity to play with. Everything makes sense from a design prospective. They have a set of buttons that controls your clips (drums, bass line, vocals etc.). These buttons can be either triggered individually or as a string. This will allow for live performances to go in new directions putting much more control into the hands of the user than was previously available at a consumer level. While there are a few standards like knobs and faders, my favorite feature of the new APC is the ability to change views and windows. For those of you familar with http://www.ableton.com/ LIVE know that there are so many different views and screens that it is often difficult to navigate them all quickly with a mouse. These quick change view buttons will help user visually see their effects, volume controls, and clips ultimately giving the user total control of LIVE.

 

As many of you know, everyone over at Mix Rev is massive fans of  FN Socials and their monthly party Sloppy Seconds. Every time we step out and head our way down in to the dungeon that is known as MJQ we come out a new person, better, refreshed, renewed. Their is true honesty for the music and the culture there, and oh yeah, they sell PBR for two bucks (well I can’t really remember but who cares). Either way, through our journey to this magical place we heard ATL’s own DJ SMILES . Well after we sobered up and found some wifi, we decided to google this kid. So about four months ago we documented the dynamic duo of Travis barker and DJ AM nearly dying in a plane crash that took the lives of their friends and crew.  Everyone at Mix Revolution definitely took a minute out to pray for their family’s and those who passed.

Even through all the drama these two are still  going as hard as ever, performing recently in their home city of LA as well as dropping their first mix tape (that we know about) Fix Your Face.

So our good friend Rachael Starr has been busy traveling and preforming for the last year. Over the last year Starr has been featured on Tiesto’s In Search of Sunrise 7 cd with her track “Till forever”.  She has started the label Silent Machine oh yeah and is DJing all over the world from places like South America to Morocco and everywhere in between.  To say were a bit jealous is an understatement. Regardless of our jealousy level we think her latest mix is something any late night night club crawler will appreciate.
