So I just stumble across the following news feed. I would like you to read it and then ponder, how some of the peer pressure in this industry can hurt others.
DJ AM Reveals Dark Past
January 3, 2008 5:29 a.m. EST
Sally Grover – Celebrity News Service News WriterLos Angeles, CA (CNS) – DJ AM may be one of the hottest DJ’s in Hollywood, with an impressive list of starlet ex-girlfriends and the
deed to many of the towns hottest nightclubs. However, just ten years ago, DJ AM was leading a very different life. The 33 year-old music man, whose real name is Adam Goldstein, has told the story of his past to Glamour magazine.
The ex-fiancé of Nicole Richie revealed that he was once so close to committing suicide he had a gun in his mouth.
AM said, “I went into my living room, reached into a cabinet above my TV and grabbed my gun, a loaded .22. I sat back on my heels, cocked it and put it into my mouth. I pulled the trigger. The gun didn’t go off. I thought, ‘Are you kidding me? I’m such an [expletive] failure I can’t even kill myself? I dropped the gun and broke down. That was the turning point in my life.”Since the turning point at age 24, DJ AM has become one of the biggest entertainers in Hollywood, favored by celebrities and appearing at some of the hottest parties.
However, his priorities have changed.
The star continued, “I no longer needed a trophy girlfriend or drugs to feel good about myself. It’s been nine and a half years since I’ve had a drink or taken drugs. But every day I have to remind myself that no matter how much time I have behind me, I’m still a drug addict.”
“At any given moment, I’m five seconds away from walking up to someone, grabbing their drink out of their hand and downing it. And if I do that, within a week, tops, I’ll be smoking crack.”
AM is one of my favorites to catch when I am out in LA. He is probably one of the best at getting a party started and finished with whoever his audience is, leaving the club better off. While I do not know him personally, many who are acquainted with him, know that he is pretty open about all of this.
Still, there are many DJs out there who may be in a similar spot and not as open. This is a privileged job we get to do. Help make sure many can do it for years to come!
No commentsYo it’s 2008!
I am going to be a bit cliche here but time does fly when you are having fun. The holiday’s came and went like that and all I got was a Earvin “Magic” Johnson pimped out suit! Ha! Hopefully you all enjoyed your vacation and brought in the New Years in style, well how you wished!
Now it’s time to get back to business. MixRev is getting ready for a huge year. We are already getting ready for NAMM, the Grammys, SXSW, Winter Music Conference and more. Let us know where we need to be. I can’t wait to head back to some of my favorite events!
As for New Years, one of ’07’s and this years biggest DJ names, KASKADE and his manager Stephanie, were kind enough to let me tag along with them at Giant Maximus and film his amazing set! Look out for some footage and an interview soon! Giant did it again with another awesome event.
Kaskade had a crowded tent dancing from front to back, playing many of his multiple hits from last year with some new stuff. Tiesto had his legions going nuts as usual, didn’t stick around for much of that. Not my thing.
The only surprise to me was, the Eight tent with MSTRKRFT, Z-Trip and others. I have seen MSTRKRFT kill it in front of thousands at Coachella and other events but I am not sure where those fans were this past New Years. I guess the hipsters were too broke to show up. Many were probably out at the evening other huge event, Hard NYE! All in all they still killed it!
Look out for a feature on LA Riots and hopefully MSTRKRFT tomorrow! Their manager is celebrating his B-Day!
One last thing for all you Digital DJs. While browsing for New Articles and features for the site I came across this:

What is it you may ask? It is the end to computer plugging, I think? Check out more in the News Section here!
