Vinyl resurgence!!!
Two articles by WIRED and Billboard Magazine have stated of a significant resurgence in Vinyl sales!!! Now I know it’s hard to believe, but I guess the niche market of audiophiles is ever increasing. I think there will always be a specific niche market that feels the need to buy a 12″ album. Especially if they’re now attaching coupons for free mp3 downloads with the Album. Now will I start buying vinyl again like I used to? Probably not because my closet is already full of crates and crates and crates…..and more crates of vinyl. I love music, but maybe I’m getting old and I can’t deal with transporting 15+ crates of vinyl whenever I move into a different apartment. How many crates DO YOU HAVE in your home?!?!

I’ve been in the music business for over 34 years, DJed in the clubs & mixshows for over 28 years of those years & I’ve always loved the sound quality of vinyl compared to CDs & or digital music. I’m the owner of one of the top record pools in the USA, Starfleet Music Pool & as the years have gone on we’ve seen more DJs wanting to join the pool, but only want to receive digital music. I try to advise new members to take advantage of having access to all 3 formats, vinyl, CDs & MP3s, but those digital DJs say they don’t have turntables & they’d rather play from their computers. I ask, “have you ever played music on a turntable?”, “NOPE” is the usual reply. “I hate to have to haul around crates of music, it hurts my back” has been the majority of their replies. Another contributing factor to overweight DJs, but that’s another story. There is a generation of people/DJs that do not know what they are missing with the quality of sound when playing a piece of VINYL. For years the industry has been trying to kill off vinyl, since the early 80’s, but it just keeps coming back. CDs were supposed to replace vinyl, but again the quality, the fullness, the rich sound from vinyl always wins out. Now, digital music & the iPod has driven another stake into the vinyl format for years, but when you play the same song side by side from an iPod & from a turntable on a nice sound system, VINYL always wins! Plus, I love being able to look done at the vinyl, as it’s spinning around on the turntable & seeing the grooves, watching the for the breaks coming up so I can prepare to mix into the next song. With CDs & MP3s, you have to know the digital number, the time, for the breaks. It’s just not the same. I can’t tell you how many DJs that I have converted or at least got them to use vinyl as another format in their clubs & parties once they’ve heard the difference. Long live VINYL!
