From R to L: TYGA with his Cousin Travis.

There are a lot of hip-hop artist out there that claim every day to be bringing their city or side back into the limelight! That is just the way of the business and the supposed swagger these dudes should have. But few live up to these claims.

A few months back, a close friend and smart young blood from my Universal days, told me about a 17 year-old kid he was beginning to help out from Compton named Tyga. From the minute he sent me his MySpace page and I heard the great diversity in his tracks I knew this kid was the future to bringing my beloved West Coast back to the limelight and the respect it deserves.

Now I am far from representing the streets anymore by choice. Nowadays I am content with being another white kid that likes rap. But to me no other West Coast artist out now embodies the streets while also taking risk to change the game than Tyga. Just like his West forefathers, he is choosing to talk venture into territory, that musically, has been consider off limits to the streets. I mean who can make “Hey There Delilah” sound like an urban hit or has garnered enough early respect to be on a remix ft. kanye West and Lil’ Wayne of Fall Out Boy and then go and perform live with them at this year’s VMAs.

The world is sleeping on this kid. Soon though, he will awake the tired Hip-Hop masses like Stewie Griffin! Ha! Bringing a new Era to the genre of Hip-Hop, an era of non-conformity and individuality, that is greatly needed in this here today, gone tomorrow, one hit wonder mess of an industry! These claims may sound bold and some may not agree but really to go platinum you only need 1% of the US on your side anyways. Hate it or love it but check it out and give it a chance!
